PART 1

The color of a star tells us vitally important information about that star – the color of the star relates to its temperature, which we can then relate to the size and mass of the star. This lab lets you investigate some of those relationships.

Please have a look at the webpages for this activity, and do Explore exercises 1 – 5, and questions 2 – 5 (skip question 1). You can submit the Explore 1 workbook, as well as the Explore 5 workbook (if you can combine the two into one file, that would be better). You can answer the questions on the same workbook, if you like, and submit it below.

PART 2

Just like stars come in many different types so, too, do galaxies. This lab will introduce you to the different classifications of galaxies, including Hubble’s Tuning Fork model.

Just looking at the night sky tells you that all stars are not the same – there are a bunch of different types of stars, and they are split into different categories. This lab will help you learn about the stellar classification system.
