NICOLE:

There are eight steps in hypothesis testing. Step one is to formulate the research hypothesis. Step two is to formulate the null and alternate hypothesis. Step three is to identify the variables and scales of measurement. Step four is to choose the test statistic. Step five is to determine the sample size. Step six is to collect the data and compute the test statistic. Step seven is to check to see whether assumptions for statistical testing is met. And the final step, step eight is to apply the decision rule and approve.

In my opinion step one, formulating the hypothesis is the most important step. The hypothesis needs to be proven if an individual is going to make recommendations to the public health practitioner.  Those recommendations will be used to help the community based on the testing and conclusions made by data collected using that hypothesis.
