Early telescopes relied on the visible light spectrum emitted by celestial bodies to study other planets and space debris. Nowadays, we have many different types of telescopes that can collect higher and lower frequency wavelengths of light.
Choose one wavelength: radio waves, UV waves, gamma rays, etc. and share with the class some interesting facts about a type of telescope that records and relays information about objects emitting these types of wavelengths. Is your telescope able to determine if life exists on other planets? Why or why not? You should be asking yourself: does life produce that wavelength in a manner that can be detected? Can that wavelength detect conditions for life, but not life itself? Just how can a sudden change or pattern in that wavelength suggest that ife exists.
